Adília Lopes is the pseudonym of a woman who marked contemporary Portuguese poetry with a profoundly original work that subverted the established categories of the genre. Her writing, distinguished by an unusual combination of the prosaic and the erudite, the everyday and the metaphysical, baffled literary critics and opened up new horizons for Portuguese literature.

Adília played with words and transformed the banal into poetic material, addressing feminine and domestic themes, love and lovelessness, with candor, irony and despair. The verses, simple in appearance, carry a density that results from a unique linguistic exploration, renouncing traditional lyricism, but maintaining a depth that moves, makes you laugh and think.

This group exhibition is a tribute to the poet and aims to demonstrate her legacy’s ability to inspire several generations of artists.
